Maria De Villota loses the use of her right eye

After the bizarre crash on Tuesday, the hospital staff have confirmed the news that Maria De Villota has the lose the use of her right eye. The Marussia F1 driver was rushed to the hospital after her car was involved in a collision with a loading tray of a lorry.

Details are still very sketchy, but it is being reported that her head received the bulk of impact.

The whole F1 fraternity has been affected by the news of her crash and we would also like to wish her a speedy recover.

Here's the official statement...

“Maria emerged from theatre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital this morning after a lengthy operation to address the serious head and facial injuries she received in the accident at Duxford Airfield yesterday,” Team Principal John Booth says in a statement.

“We are grateful for the medical attention that Maria has been receiving and her family would like to thank the Neurological and Plastics surgical teams. However it is with great sadness that I must report that, due to the injuries she sustained, Maria has lost her right eye.
